WHAT: The National Community Committee of the CDC Prevention Research Centers Program: Impacting Research Policy & Practice at Local & National Levels
This call will focus on the history, impact and lessons learned of the National Community Committee, a unique and important committee of the CDC Prevention Research Centers (PRC) Program. The NCC is a group of action-oriented people from communities around the country who are partners in CDC's PRC Program. Since its origins in the late 1990s, the NCC has evolved from a loosely formed advisory body into a catalyst for changing the way that researchers and community members interact to influence practice and policy. During this call, NCC members will present the story of the NCC, its evolution over time, and examples of how community committees have shaped the conduct and outcomes of prevention research at local and national levels.
Call participants will learn how community committees or boards can be more than "advisory", and how when reps of these community committees come together, they can support each other in meaningful ways and have a critical voice in the overall structure of a federal grant program.
