The RIMI grant funds Health Disparities projects.

Health Disparities research investigates inequities in the overall rate of disease incidence, prevalence, access to health care, morbidity, mortality, or survival rates with regard to physical health, mental health and developmental disabilities in a population attributable to race, ethnicity, gender, age, social class or other factors leading to lack of access to health care compared to health status of the general population.

RIMI Health Disparities Research:  The RIMI grant will fund research projects for 1-3 years in duration for research that focuses on health disparities.  All projects must include a nationally renown health disparities researcher as a mentor to be involved at each stage of the study.  It is also expected that CSUSB students (graduate and undergraduate) will be involved in the research project.  Three projects at $40,000 per year are available to support faculty release time, summer salary, mentorship costs, and other costs associated with the research project.

Grant Writing Release Time:  The RIMI grant provides a total of $16,000 each year to support up to two faculty members with course release time or summer salary in order to write and submit an externally-funded grant related to health disparities.

Summer Research Training at a Research Intensive University:  The RIMI grant provides $30,000 to support 2-3 faculty members for a 4-5 week training program at a research intensive university.  The faculty member will be provided with salary support during their training along with their expenses being covered.  Examples of training topics could include fMRI, use of national health data sets, bioassay techniques, SCID interviewing techniques, etc.  The training must be in an area that is substantially different from what the faculty member is currently doing.
