Did You Know?

San Bernardino County Dept. of Public Health is currently reporting these facts on its web site:

  • The county is the 4th most obese region in the U.S.;
  • The county has the worst access to healthy food in the state.

For every supermarket or produce vendor, there are 5.7 times as many fast-food restaurants or convenience stores.

Studies reported by the Calif.Center for Public Health Advocacy found that “where there are high numbers of fast-food restaurants compared to grocery stores, there are also higher rates of diabetes, cardiovascular disease & cancer.”

Working Together to Build Healthier Communities

The Center for the Promotion of Health Disparities Research & Training (CPHDRT) is working to build research capabilities at CSUSB.

“Envision an America in which all populations will have an equal opportunity to live long, healthy, and productive lives.”
- National Center on Minority Health and Health Disparities

The purpose of the Center for the Promotion of Health Disparities Research is to increase the research, scholarship, and training opportunities for faculty and students in the area of health disparities.

It is our hope that California State University San Bernardino will become a leader in health disparities research that could benefit the Inland Empire, nation, and the international community.
